Bangkok, Thailand

Siriraj Hospital is a 2000-bed hospital in the middle of an enormous complex at Mahidol University Medical Center. It is a tertiary care referral center for all hospitals in Thailand. Duke Residents work with Thai residents in seeing and evaluating patients, and residents can rotate on cardiology, neurology, gastroenterology, and hematology.   Read more

Bomet, Kenya

Tenwek Hospital is a ministry of World Gospel Mission and Africa Gospel Church. The hospital, which started as a single-nurse dispensary in 1937, is now a 300-bed hospital and training center. In addition to being the area’s primary hospital, Tenwek serves as a referral hospital that receives patients from throughout the country.   Read more

Eldoret, Kenya

Duke has actively collaborated with Moi University School of Medicine and Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital (MTRH) since joining the AMPATH (Academic Model Providing Access to Healthcare) Consortium in 2006. All Duke trainee assignments are contingent upon faculty availability, primarily focusing on the cardiology service, inpatient medical wards, psychiatry and/or ICU.   Read more

Galle, Sri Lanka

The 1,400-bed Teaching Hospital at Karapitiya serves as the leading tertiary care facility for southwestern Sri Lanka. Duke trainees can undertake clinical electives in medicine, community and family medicine, pediatrics, surgery, orthopedics, ENT, neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery, urology, psychiatry, critical care, or emergency medicine. Trainees are also encouraged to partake in Ruhuna University’s community health projects.   Read more

Iquitos, Peru

The Hospital Regional de Loreto (HRL) is the public, reference hospital for this population and depends on the Regional Health Directorate of Loreto (GERESA Loreto). The HRL is a public teaching hospital with ~130 beds divided into several departments, including Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, OB/Gyn, ICU and Emergency wards. The hospital offers subspecialty care in: internal medicine, pediatrics, cardiology, rheumatology, gastroenterology, pulmonology, neurology, nephrology, endocrinology, infectious disease, trauma care, ophthalmology, dermatology, ENT, urology, gynecology/family planning, oncology, hematology, psychiatry, and surgery (neurosurgery, plastic surgery, and pediatric surgery).   Read more

Moshi, Tanzania

Duke has substantial clinical research collaborations with Kilimanjaro Christian Medical College and has placed medical students, residents, and fellows there for training opportunities since 1985. Duke trainees have joined the inpatient and outpatient clinical services for learning opportunities. They may join inpatient service and care for patients with a spectrum of poverty-related diseases, especially tuberculosis, malaria, and HIV infection.   Read more

Mwanza, Tanzania

Bugando Medical Centre is a consultant and teaching hospital for the Lake and Western zones of the United Republic of Tanzania. Duke residents have the opportunity to participate in clinical rotations, and it is an excellent location for hands-on patient care. Residents will have the opportunity to improve physical exams skills and learn how to provide patient care in a resource poor setting.   Read more

Shiprock, United States

Northern Navajo Medical Center (NNMC) is a 75-bed hospital in Shiprock, New Mexico serving Native American patients from the northeastern part of the Navajo reservation and the greater Four Corners area. Clinical services include Anesthesia, Dentistry, Emergency Medicine, Family Practice, General Surgery, Internal Medicine, Neurology, OB/Gyn, Optometry, Orthopedics, ENT, Pediatrics, Physical Therapy and Psychiatry. Rotations include working in the TB Clinic, Miner’s Clinic, Rheumatology, Diabetes Clinic, Hepatitis Clinic, and Hypertension Clinic.   Read more
