Application and Selection Process

  • Current application cycle is for the July 1, 2026 program start.
  • Interested trainees should contact us to confirm eligibility prior to applying.
  • Contact us to confirm your subspecialty is participating.
      • Applications accepted from current Duke residents and fellows from participating subspecialties.
      • Applications from non-Duke applicants are accepted for Global Emergency Medicine Fellowship.
Criteria for selection include:
  • Strong recommendation from current Residency or Fellowship Program Director
  • Academic qualifications
  • Demonstrated maturity, integrity, and cross cultural awareness/sensitivity
  • Ability to articulate relevance of global health training to future career plans
  • Prior global health experience
  • Strength of personal interview
Applicants are required to provide the following:
  • Updated curriculum vitae
  • Two letters of recommendation from faculty (one may be from your Program Director). Faculty members should send their recommendation letters directly to tara.pemble@duke.edu
  • Personal Statement (1-3 pages) describing your reasons for pursuing the Global Health Pathway should include:
    • A description of any prior work/experiences overseas related to caring for under-served populations
    • Personal qualities that will prepare you for this position.
    • Ability to articulate relevance of global health training to your future career goals
    • How this program will help you accomplish your career goals

Placement is competitive and contingent upon the qualifications of the applicant and spots available in the program.
