Summary

Dr. Sofia Zavala Monzon is a 2022 graduate of the Global Health Pathway in Infectious Diseases.  She is currently an Infectious Diseases fellow in the Duke Department of Medicine. She earned her medical degree from the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia Facultad de Medicina Alberto Hurtado in Lima, Peru. She worked at the Alexander von Humboldt Tropical Medicine Institute in Lima, Peru as a research fellow and coordinator for the Gorgas Courses in Clinical Tropical Medicine. She completed an Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Alabama in Birmingham, Alabama. As part of her residency, she completed a Refugee Health Course as well as the Health Disparities Track and was President of the Global Health Interest Group. She is currently enrolled in the Duke Master of Science in Global Health Program. Her interests include mycobacterial infections, neglected tropical diseases and medical education.
